Henry Pooley gates. The intricately decorated iron gates, estimated now to be worth between £50,000 and £100,000 (present day prices), were originally cast and hung on the city centre Sailors' Home on Paradise Street in 1840. they were designed by John Cunningham, who designed the Sailors Home, at the time they were described as his 'international masterpiece', in laymens terms they could be described as the cherry on the cake. They were then cast in iron by Henry Pooley and Sons iron foundry, based in Liverpool. Submitted by Phil Griffiths, of the Wirral, UK.
