Known locally as Alder Hey but more correctly as the 'Royal Liverpool Children's Hospital Alder Hey'. The name was taken from 'Myrtle Street' Children's hospital when it closed in the 90's. Myrtle Street has since been demolished and The Liverpool Community College, Arts Centre built on the site.
The foundation stone to Alder Hey Infirmary was laid on March 30 1911 the hospital opening in October 1914.
The sick and injured soldiers of the Great war were nursed at Alder Hey, my grandfather Douglas Perry being one of them.
