Right on the edge of 'China Town' the Congregational Church pictured here is known as 'The Blackie'. It stands on the site of an earlier chapel, which was burnt down in only a couple of hours.
'The Blackie' was designed by Henry Gauntlett the then Corporation Architect. Now used as a community centre.
