St Luke's Church known locally as 'the bombed out church' this follows second world war damage in 1941 when the shell of the Nave, chancel and tower were left. The church has never been repaired but the tower still dominates the top of Bold Street. Designed in 1802 by John Foster senior, but reworked by his son John Foster junior and completed in 1831. In recent years the area has been cultivated and now the church stands in its own garden, to provide a place of rest and tranquility. This is a computer retouched photograph (I have removed some buildings to the right of the picture).
Bold Street is named after Jonas Bold who had leased the land on which St Luke's is built.
