The Philharmonic Hotel, Hope Street. It stands on the opposite corner to the Philharmonic Hall.
As Liverpool's wealth grew, public houses also flourished. This 'pub' is a famous example of the flamboyant gin palaces of the 1890 - 1910 period. Designed by Walter Thomas and completed in 1900. It is furnished in mahogany, copper, plaster and stained glass. A visit to the 'gents' is recommended.
Hope Street is named after William Hope, a merchant whose house occupied the plot of land on which now stands the Philharmonic Hotel.
