Mathew Street home of the Cavern Club made famous in the 1960's by the Beatles.
The original Club was in the basement of a Victorian warehouse. The Club featured many of the now familiar names such as:-
Cilla Black (the club's cloakroom attendant), Swinging Blue Jeans, Billy J Kramer, P J Proby, Gerry and the Pacemakers and The beatles.
The 1960's Cavern was closed for demolition in 1973 to enable an underground railway to be constructed. The new Cavern Club in the basement of Cavern Walks was erected in 1984.
