In the foreground can be seen the Mersey Tunnel entrance and St John's Gardens separated by Old Haymarket.
At the junction of Byrom street and the tunnel entrance is The Liverpool College of Technology. The College was later moved into the more modern buildings further along Byrom street, and later still, was to become John Moores University.
To the right of the College in William Brown street is Liverpool Museum.
