Walker Art Gallery, paid for by Sir Andrew Barclay Walker and opened by him in 1887. The gallery was designed by H.H. Vale.
The statues to each side of the entrance are by Warrington Wood and represent Raphael and Michelangelo.
Over the portico is a statue of a magestic matron seated on a bale of cotton, wearing a civic crown wreathed in laurels. She holds a ships propeller in her left hand and a trident in her right.
The Steble Fountain can be seen to the right foreground. Designed by W.Cunliff and given to the City by Colonel R.F. Steble the Mayor of Liverpool from 1874 to 1875.
The former Lancashire County Sessions House can be seen to the far right of the photograph.
