One Sunday afternoon this year (2003) we wandered around Liverpool with my mates cousin acting as a guide. He took us to the Cavern, Penny Lane, John Lennons House, Strawberry fields and one other place, which brings me to the reason I am writing.
In the Church on the other side of the road from the church hall where John
and Paul first met is a church graveyard. If you stand facing the
graveyard, with your back to the street, and from the middle passage, read
the gravestone that is three rows in and three stones to the right. The
grave has the name "Eleanor Rigby" on it.
I have enclosed a scan of a
picture my mate took.
Up until a week ago, I had no idea where the name Eleanor Rigby originated. When my mates cousin showed us the grave, not far from a number of sites associated with the early lives of John and Sir Paul, it seems a stretch that there could be any other explanation. Here is another explaination.
Makes for interesting talk over a good pint, though, doesn't it?
