These sounds from around Liverpool were recorded using my video recorder slung around my shoulders. My thinking was that no one would be bothered by this as the camera lens was covered and it did not look as if it was in use. Not that I wished to record things I shouldn't but to draw as little attention to myself as possible (being 6'2" doesn't help!).
This ploy worked fine, but the recordings suffer from my inexperienced use, as I have been unable to remove the large amount of background noise I picked up along the way.
For those people who come from around Liverpool some of these sounds may be sufficient to bring back a few memories. To anyone else the Echo seller and the ferry noises might bring to you the flavour of Liverpool.
Sounds are all 11025Hz 8bit mono files and I have listed their size and duration against the title.

| (379k 35sec). Busking in Liverpool Heard walking up Bold street Liverpool past the student buskers outside Waterstone's bookshop, Bold street. Usually the buskers are individuals playing a guitar, trumpet or instruments of a similar kind. These two lads were, as can be heard quite different. |

(346k 32sec). The Liver clock The clock was designed by Gent & Co.Ltd. It is the largest electrical turret clock in England, the dial of which is bigger the that of Big Ben, London. Unfortunately there is a lot of background traffic noise coming from the 'Strand', the main road along the water front. There is a photograph of the Liver building and clock, elsewhere on this site. |
| (419 38sec). Sound of Mersey ferry coming into the landing stage at the Pier Head. First of all you hear the squeezing of the fenders then sounds of instruction and finally the dropping of the gangway for the foot passengers to disembark. A photograph of a mersey ferry can be seen elsewhere on the this site. |
